Volunteer Content Writers/Brand Journalists

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your  writing and marketing skills by working with a young, innovative digital charity.

Throughout British history, diversity has added to the identity and make up of Britain today.  Whether it’s our language, or music and foods and products which have come from different communities but have been absorbed into the British identity – diversity has truly benefitted this country. At Link Up (UK) we aim to deal with issues of citizenship by developing projects that promote a sense of community and belonging.  Our flagship project, The Great British Community takes a truly innovative approach to this arena, as we will be combating racism and segregation by highlighting the positive contribution and benefits that diversity has brought to the UK.

We are looking for Content Writers/Brand Journalists to support the development of this project.  Reporting into the Development Manager, we are looking for volunteers to commit to develop content for a minimum of 3 months but are happy for people to volunteer ongoingly beyond this point.

The successful candidates will be researching and writing around issues of prejudice and diversity, and creating articles and infographics to feature on our website. Candidates will also learn how to promote their work across social media, syndicated sites and via off page SEO to ensure it reaches the widest possible audience.

Successful candidate should have experience of/ be keen to develop their skills using social media.

We are looking for applicants who are able to /willing to learn how to use wordpress content management systems, and be responsible for upkeep of their own content, including; sourcing creative commons or original art and images and video

Vounteers should have:

Experience of article writing and research.

Willingness to learn about writing for online communities including: marketing and promotion of articles through online curation, syndiaction, key word seeding, off page SEO, Adwords and pay per click campaigns

An interest in social cohesion/ diversity and a willingness to write within the Link Up (UK)’s ethos and stated the aims of the project

Experience of using social media, willingness to mamage social media and learn new social media management software, such as hootsuite.

The ability to plan and manage projects successfully and to work independently and with initiative, prioritising own workload and meeting content deadlines.

Dedication to completing work to the highest standard and ability to think imaginatively.

Ability to use MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint/Equivalent google apps to a competent level or willingness to undertake and complete training in this area

Willingness to learn ‘backend’ word press content management and infographic software

This will be a demanding role that will challenge peoples skill sets but the trade off will be a highly developed social media and online promotion skill set as a result. The Charity is located in London but successful candidates could be located anywhere in the UK. Online training options will be provided. There will be an online interview process for those outside of London. You will need access to skype/google + for weekly content meetings.
